● Early Access — final beta Windows desktop SOLIDWORKS API

SolidWorks
MCP Server

Connect Claude, ChatGPT, and Grok (respective accounts needed separately) directly to desktop SOLIDWORKS through a local MCP server. Access models, query the PDM vault, extract BOMs, manage revisions, and reason about your CAD data — while your files stay on your own Windows machine.

What you can do

SolidWorks MCP tool coverage

The Early Access final beta ships a 50-tool local bridge. The cards below are representative of the coverage, not the full list — and because this is a beta, tool names and signatures can still change between builds.

sw_model_properties
Read custom and configuration-specific properties from a SolidWorks model — part number, description, material, revision, and any user-defined properties.
sw_pdm_search
Search the SOLIDWORKS PDM vault by part number, description, or custom property. Returns file metadata, check-in history, and vault path.
sw_bom_get
Extract bill of materials from a SolidWorks assembly. Returns flat or indented BOM with quantities, part numbers, descriptions, and custom columns.
sw_revision_history
Query the revision history of a model from the PDM vault — who changed what, when, and what comment was left at each revision transition.
sw_configuration_list
List all configurations in a SolidWorks part or assembly with their suppression state, description, and key distinguishing properties.
sw_mass_properties
Compute mass, volume, surface area, center of mass, and principal moments of inertia for the active configuration of a SolidWorks model.
Your data stays on your machine

Desktop SOLIDWORKS data never leaves your Windows machine

The SolidWorks MCP server runs as a local bridge on your own workstation, talking to SOLIDWORKS through its native API. Your models, drawings, BOMs, and PDM vault are read locally — only the specific answer your AI asked for is returned. Raw geometry and source files never leave your machine. See local bridge architecture for the full shape of how this works, and CAD AI security for what to check before connecting anything to production CAD data.

🖥️
Local bridge
The connector runs on your Windows machine and drives SOLIDWORKS through its native API — no cloud upload of your CAD files, no copy of your PDM vault on our servers.
🔒
Only answers leave
Claude, ChatGPT, or Grok receives the specific values it requested — a BOM table, a property, a revision note — not your raw geometry or design files.
📋
Owner-operated & auditable
The connector is built and maintained by ForgeMCP, with full source review available to Enterprise customers under NDA.

Use cases

What SolidWorks MCP enables

🏭
PDM vault search and review
Ask Claude to search your PDM vault for parts matching a description, compare two revisions, or find all assemblies that reference a given part number.
📋
BOM extraction and documentation
Extract assembly BOMs and ask Claude to generate procurement summaries, manufacturing work orders, or DFMEA entries based on the BOM structure.
🔄
ECO and revision management
Query revision history and changed properties to ask Claude to draft Engineering Change Order documentation via the FlowGuideAI MCP server.
